Myles Garrett requests trade from Browns

Browns general manager Andrew Berry reaffirmed his position last week at the Senior Bowl that he has no interest in dealing Myles Garrett, the 2023 AP Defensive Player of the Year.

Garrett has however continued to publicly express his wish to play somewhere else.

In a statement given to many reporters on Monday, Garrett publicly asked the Browns for a trade.

“As a kid dreaming of the NFL, all I focused on was the ultimate goal of winning a Super Bowl — and that goal fuels me today more than ever,” Garrett’s statement reads. “My love for the community of Northeast Ohio and the incredible fanbase of the Cleveland Browns has made this one of the toughest decisions of my life. These past eight years have shaped me into the man that I am today.

“While I’ve loved calling this city my home, my desire to win and compete on the biggest stages won’t allow me to be complacent. The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton, it has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl.

“With that in mind, I have requested to be traded from the Cleveland Browns.”

As the G.M. stated twice in January that the organization envisioned Garrett traveling straight from Cleveland to the Hall of Fame in Canton, Garrett's statement alludes to Berry's remarks.

Garrett, a four-time first-team All-Pro and the first overall pick in the 2017 draft, is already among the greatest players in the history of the team. In 2024, he will become the first player in league history to post at least 14.0 sacks in four consecutive seasons with his 102.5 sack total.

Garrett led the league with 22 tackles for loss despite the Browns' 3-14 record. He has 28 QB hits as well.

Given that Garrett has two more years left on his current contract, Cleveland would have a sizable amount of dead money on the cap.

Berry and the Browns will undoubtedly receive calls with offers for the outstanding edge rusher even though they may not be interested in selling Garrett.
