Oilers need to hit that Panic Button!

Everyone believed the Edmonton Oilers would return with a fury after their loss to the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Final, which featured Connor McDavid and the team.

Well, the season hasn't started out well for them. The Oilers, who have a 0-3-0 record after losing games to the Winnipeg Jets, Chicago Blackhawks, and Calgary Flames, are currently dead bottom in the Pacific Division.

The Oilers captain was cornered after Sunday night’s loss to Calgary. The press has started going Barbara Walters on him. It’s hoping he will shed a tear of frustration.

“Are you guys up to the emotional level, playing with the intensity you need to right now?”

“Probably not,” McDavid muttered. “We’re getting beat in a lot of battles. Getting beat in a lot of different ways.”

McDavid nodded his head slightly from side to side while he spoke, his eyes fixed on the ground. He is having problems remembering his cliches because he hasn't needed to use them all summer.

Perhaps the Oilers are operating under a strategy that no one is willing to publicly discuss, or perhaps they do have one. However, it appears that this is how an NHL season ought to be approached; there's no need to rush things.

In general, there aren't many games in sports where players hit each other as hard as they can, and there are plenty of games in sports where players don't do that. The NHL plays both frequently and with the same brain-rattling intensity as football.
