Canada's Aaliyah Edwards breaks out for first WNBA double-double vs. Sky
On Thursday night, the Kingston, Ontario native and Washington Mystics had a huge breakthrough performance, defeating the Chicago Sky with 23 points, 14 rebounds, and 4 blocks on an effective 10-for-12 shooting night.
But in the end, the Mystic fell short 79-71, ending their season with a dismal 0-10 record.

Tonight, Aaliyah Edwards joined an elite club, becoming the 6th WNBA rookie with 20+ PTS, 14+ REB, and 4+ BLK in a game, alongside legends like Yolanda Griffith, Cheryl Ford, Candace Parker, Tina Charles, and Teaira McCowan… pic.twitter.com/kNaVOcPMHk
After snagging the place against the Connecticut Sun on June 4, Edwards, 21, received the starting-five nod for the fourth time in her brief career and her first consecutive back-to-back game. It's reasonable to speculate that she might never let it go.
She was unstoppable from the field, defeating fellow rookie Angel Reese at every turn and sinking her first eight shots. She didn't miss until 8:36 in the fourth quarter.
She swatted two of the former LSU standout's shots and reduced her to just 16 points while playing poor 5-for-17 from the field. In addition, she managed to block Kamilla Cardoso, another rookie for the Sky.
In the fourth quarter, she scored more than 20 points for the first time in her career as the losing Mystics attempted a comeback. She had never achieved a double-double since joining the WNBA.
