Trade Rumors: Winnipeg willing to trade Ehlers for a top 4 defenseman or a high draft pick

After getting eliminated in the first round the Winnipeg Jets could look into a retool of sorts. It's quite obvious that Kyle Connor, Connor Hellebuyck, Mark Scheifele, and Josh Morrissey are the only untouchables. That leaves the 28-year winger the odd man out. Throughout his career, Ehlers has been a productive top-six winger who puts up around fifty-sixty points every year. Many teams would beneficent from a speedy left winger in his prime, who has one year left on his contract before becoming an unrestricted free agent, and carries an average annual value of $6 million.

Murat Ates of The Athletic reports that Ehlers is likely to be dealt soon, even as soon as the NHL Draft on June 28-29, as Winnipeg looks to free up cap space and possibly strengthen their defensive lines or acquire a coveted first-round draft pick.

The trade talks are made more difficult by Ehlers' 10-team no-trade clause, which gives him considerable control over his possible destinations. The Jets are committed to handling these challenges skillfully, though, in order to guarantee that they get healthy returns that complement both their short- and long-term roster requirements.
