Mason McTavish Skating with Ottawa 67s as Contract Talks Stall

Anaheim Ducks centre Mason McTavish may not have a contract yet, but he isn’t sitting idle.

The restricted free agent has been skating with the OHL’s Ottawa 67s while waiting for a new deal to be finalized, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.

Friedman reports that negotiations have stalled primarily over term. Anaheim is pushing for a long-term agreement, while McTavish’s camp appears more inclined toward a shorter bridge deal. So far, no resolution has been reached.

Following Trevor Zegras’ departure this summer, McTavish is set to become a cornerstone of the Ducks’ young roster. Entering his fifth NHL season, he’ll be counted on to take on a larger role.

Last season, the 21-year-old posted career highs with 22 goals and 30 assists, while averaging 16:53 of ice time per game, the highest of his career.

McTavish is one of two notable restricted free agents still without a contract, joining New Jersey Devils defenceman Luke Hughes on that list.
