LeBron becomes 1st athlete to receive own Ken doll
The Barbie universe now includes LeBron James.
A Ken doll in his likeness will be released by Mattel in collaboration with the Los Angeles Lakers player and his LeBron James Family Foundation, the company announced Wednesday. As the first professional athlete to receive their own version of the Ken doll, James is also the brand's first "Kenbassador".
"As a young kid, I was fortunate to have role models who not only inspired me but also showed me what's possible through hard work and dedication," James said in a press release. "Now, as an adult, I understand how vital it is for young people to have positive figures to look up to. That's why partnering with Barbie to release the LeBron James Kenbassadors doll is such an honor.
"It's an opportunity to recognize the powerful impact of role models who instill confidence, inspire dreams, and show kids that they, too, can achieve greatness."
James' version is dressed in a custom varsity jacket, Nike Terminator High sneakers, Beats headphones, and a fanny pack, and it is one inch higher than the typical Ken doll. Mattel and James collaborated to further personalize the ensemble.
As early as April 14, the James doll will be for sale.
