The Columbus Blue Jackets have addressed their goaltending needs by acquiring Ivan Fedotov from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round draft pick, both organizations confirmed on Sunday.
This move comes as Columbus looks to improve their defensive performance after allowing 267 goals last season, ranking them eighth-worst in the NHL for goals against.
The 28-year-old Fedotov struggled in his debut NHL campaign, posting a 6-13-4 record across 26 games with a 3.15 goals-against average and .880 save percentage for Philadelphia.
Originally drafted by Philadelphia in the seventh round (188th overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft, the Finland-born Russian goaltender made his NHL transition at the tail end of the 2023-24 season after wrapping up his KHL obligations with CSKA Moscow.
Fedotov brings extensive international experience, having spent a decade playing professionally in Russia before his NHL arrival. His most notable achievement was helping CSKA Moscow capture the KHL championship during the 2021-22 season.
In Columbus, Fedotov will compete for playing time alongside current netminders Elvis Merzlikins and promising AHL prospect Jet Greaves as the Blue Jackets aim to shore up their defensive struggles from last season.
