The Henderson Silver Knights have announced the return of defenseman Lucas Johansen, re-signing him to an AHL contract for the 2025–26 season.
Johansen, 27, appeared in 38 games for the Silver Knights last season, recording 11 assists and finishing with a minus-one rating and 28 penalty minutes.
Originally selected 28th overall by the Washington Capitals in the 2016 NHL Draft, Johansen spent the majority of his professional career with the Hershey Bears, the Capitals’ AHL affiliate. Over seven seasons in Hershey, he played in 257 regular-season games, tallying 92 points (20 goals, 72 assists), a plus-nine rating, and 82 penalty minutes. He also scored four power-play goals and two game-winners.
A key contributor during Hershey’s back-to-back Calder Cup championships in 2023 and 2024, Johansen posted 11 points (2 goals, 9 assists) and a plus-12 rating across 29 playoff games during those runs. In total, he played 41 career Calder Cup playoff games, recording 14 points and a plus-13 rating.
Johansen has also appeared in nine NHL games with the Capitals, notching two assists, a plus-two rating, and four penalty minutes.
Before turning pro, Johansen played three seasons in the WHL with the Kelowna Rockets, where he amassed 98 points (17 goals, 81 assists) and a plus-54 rating in 202 games.
With his combination of veteran presence and championship pedigree, Johansen is expected to provide leadership and stability to the Silver Knights’ blue line this season.
