Golfer Apologizes After Viral Brawl with Ex-NHLer Nick Tarnasky at Alberta Course

A heated altercation at Alberta Springs Golf Resort recently went viral after former NHL enforcer Nick Tarnasky was caught on video manhandling another golfer during a dispute on the course. Now, the man on the receiving end — identified as Trevor Ogilvie — is publicly apologizing for his role in the incident.

In a self-recorded video posted online, Ogilvie owned up to the chaos:

“Yep, that’s me — the guy who got dropped like a bucket of balls in a pond. Not my finest moment. I played 36 holes, drank too much, and my mouth ran faster than my brain.”

The incident began when Tarnasky and his group expressed frustration with slow play ahead of them. Ogilvie, wearing a Hawaiian shirt, and his partner were taking their time teeing off, prompting verbal jabs from Tarnasky. At one point, Tarnasky warned Ogilvie, "You’re not a tough guy. Hurry up."

Ogilvie responded with profanity and insults, eventually tossing his sunglasses aside and challenging Tarnasky with, “Let’s go, f---ing go, man.”

Despite warnings to back off, Ogilvie lunged at the much larger Tarnasky — a mistake that ended with Tarnasky tossing him into a water hazard. Ogilvie emerged and charged again, only to be met with a flurry of punches punctuated by Tarnasky yelling “Bang!” after each one. Even after being knocked down multiple times, Ogilvie kept coming back for more, prompting Tarnasky to repeatedly push him away and demand he leave.

At one point, Ogilvie briefly appeared to brandish a golf club after being shoved, though the confrontation eventually ended with the pair leaving the area.

In his video apology, Ogilvie stopped short of directly addressing Tarnasky but expressed remorse to everyone affected:

“All jokes aside, I want to apologize to the folks on the course, anyone caught up in it, and anyone who had to deal with me that day. I lost my cool and learned from it.”

He ended with:

“Stay hydrated. Keep your stick on the ice. Maybe stick to 18.”

Tarnasky, known for his tough reputation from 245 NHL games and over 1,000 career penalty minutes across the NHL, AHL, and KHL, is expected to break his silence about the altercation on the next episode of the Spittin’ Chiclets podcast, co-hosted by former NHLer Paul Bissonnette.

RCMP reviewed the footage but confirmed no charges are being laid, calling it a “consensual fight.” However, Tarnasky’s employer — Red Deer Minor Hockey — has launched an internal investigation.

“We are aware of a video involving a coach from Red Deer Minor Hockey,” the organization said. “While local authorities have reviewed the matter, we are conducting our own investigation and have no further comment at this time.”

Tarnasky had recently been reappointed head coach of the U17 AAA North Stars for the upcoming season, earning Coach of the Year honors in 2025 after turning the team around following a rough start the previous year.
