Trade Rumor: Bruins Interested in Young Wild Center Marco Rossi — No. 7 Pick Be in Play?

With the NHL offseason heating up and the 2025 Draft just around the corner, trade speculation is starting to boil — and the Boston Bruins appear to be in the middle of it. According to multiple league insiders, the Bruins have shown interest in Minnesota Wild center Marco Rossi, a 22-year-old former top-10 pick who may be looking for a change of scenery.

And with Boston holding the 7th overall pick in this year's draft — a rare high selection for a franchise that’s typically picking late — the pieces could be there for a mutually beneficial deal.

After a first-round exit in the 2025 playoffs, the Bruins enter the offseason with a clear need: finding a high-end center to slot in alongside superstar winger David Pastrňák. While Charlie Coyle and Pavel Zacha are effective two-way players, Boston has lacked a true offensive driver down the middle since Patrice Bergeron and David Krejčí retired.

General manager Don Sweeney has made it clear that the Bruins are in win-now mode, and bringing in a young, skilled center like Rossi — who still has RFA control — fits the team's desire to balance present contention with future sustainability.

Rossi, drafted 9th overall in 2020, is coming off a quietly solid season in Minnesota, putting up 21 goals and 44 points in 82 games — all while playing limited minutes behind Joel Eriksson Ek and Ryan Hartman. The Austrian center has strong hockey IQ, excellent puck skills, and has flashed first-line upside at times, though his role in Minnesota has been inconsistent.

For the Wild, the situation is complicated. They’re tight against the cap and are still navigating the dead money from the Parise and Suter buyouts. While they like Rossi, sources suggest they may be open to moving him if it means acquiring a premium draft pick or filling other organizational needs.

Boston’s 7th overall pick — a product of last offseason's retooling — is likely the most valuable asset the team holds. In a deep 2025 draft, that pick could land a franchise-altering talent. But with the Bruins eager to support Pastrňák and remain competitive in a crowded Eastern Conference, they may be willing to use it to land a proven young NHLer rather than wait on development.

Rossi would instantly fill a massive organizational hole and could flourish playing top-line minutes next to Pastrňák and possibly Brad Marchand, assuming he returns.

Of course, Boston could look to expand the deal — perhaps adding a mid-round pick or a secondary piece in exchange for Minnesota including a sweetener like a prospect or late-round pick.

Nothing is imminent yet, but the smoke around Rossi and Boston is growing, and it’s something worth watching closely in the lead-up to the draft. With Minnesota needing cap flexibility and Boston needing a center, there’s logic on both sides. Whether a deal gets done will depend on how highly each team values the 7th pick — and how much Minnesota truly believes in Rossi’s future.
