Bruins Shake Things Up: Fire Head Coach Jim Montgomery

Bruins Fire Montgomery

TUE NOV 19TH, BOSTON – The Boston Bruins have announced a major coaching change as General Manager Don Sweeney revealed today that Jim Montgomery has been relieved of his duties as Head Coach. Joe Sacco, who has served as the team’s Associate Coach, will take over as Interim Head Coach effective immediately.

Montgomery, was appointed as Head Coach on July 1, 2022, oversaw a historic 65-win season in 2022-23 but struggled to maintain the team’s performance in the current 2024-25 campaign. Sweeney acknowledged Montgomery’s contributions in a heartfelt statement, thanking him for his positive impact and leadership. However, he cited inconsistency and subpar results (8-9-3) over the first 20 games of the season as the rationale for the decision.

President Cam Neely also expressed gratitude to Montgomery, emphasizing his open communication and positivity while supporting Sweeney’s move to address the team’s performance.

Joe Sacco, a veteran coach and former NHL player from Melrose, Massachusetts, brings significant experience to his new role. With a background as an NHL Head Coach and nearly a decade on the Bruins’ coaching staff, Sacco is tasked with steering the team back on course after a sluggish start.

The Bruins now look to reinvigorate their season under Sacco’s leadership, aiming to meet the high standards their fans expect and deserve.
