Kraken’s Number One D-Man Placed on LTIR, Out Until November

Seattle's opening night defensive corps will not see them through the first month of the regular season.

Defenseman Vince Dunn was placed on LTIR by the Kraken on Monday night, retroactive to October 17. Cale Fleury was then recalled from the Coachella Valley Firebirds. A player may not be activated from LTIR until Nov. 12 against the Columbus Blue Jackets, assuming they are anticipated to miss at least 10 games and 24 days of the season.

Dunn's health has not been good lately. Although his present issue does not appear to be related, Seattle's best offensive defenseman missed the second part of a back-to-back in Dallas during the third game of the season due to an upper-body injury.

Dunn tripped on an opponent's stick last Thursday while playing the Philadelphia Flyers. He had jumped to catch a puck in midair. He landed awkwardly enough to miss the last five minutes of the first period even though he didn't hit the boards or the other player. Head coach Dan Bylsma described the decision to have him sit out the entire third game due to Dunn's injury as "precautionary." Dunn played 8:26 of the second half.

After Dunn missed practice on Friday, Bylsma officially declared his ailment as "mid-body" and ruled him out against the Calgary Flames on Saturday morning. Josh Mahura replaced Adam Larsson on the first pair during the Kraken's 2-1 overtime victory. Dunn didn't practice with the team again on Monday.
