Ottawa Senators star Claude Giroux’s car stolen the night of a game against the Leafs
Though he lost his car, he won the game.
Claude Giroux, a lifelong NHL veteran, had his car taken in Ottawa last night, according to a post on X by his wife, Ryanne Giroux.
The exact time and location of the theft remain unknown, but last night at the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, Claude was suit up for the Senators' 2-1 preseason victory over the Leafs.
”(Claude Giroux’s) car was stolen last night and is currently actively driving … unable to get ahold of @OttawaPolice until 10 a.m.,” Giroux’s wife said in her post. “Looking for other suggestions/to hear from other people in Ontario who have sadly had to deal with this recently.”
"We're sorry to hear this," the Ottawa police X account retorted. When a crime is being committed, dial 911 right away. We are aware that an officer has been sent out.
The Star has reached out to Ottawa police for comment.
Strangely enough, auto theft has happened to NHL players from Ontario before. After Leafs player Mitch Marner was carjacked in 2022 at gunpoint, authorities charged and later dropped two of the suspects.
For Ontario drivers, car theft has grown to be a serious concern. Even though carjackings frequently make the news, new data indicates that the province's auto theft rate has decreased as a result of increased police activity.
