Bruins’ Jeremy Swayman Opts To Not File For Arbitration
Goalie Jeremy Swayman of the Boston Bruins decided on Friday not to elect arbitration after a difficult arbitration procedure during the winter.
Don Sweeney, the general manager of Boston, did not change his position on Swayman throughout the offseason: the goaltender would always be the Bruins' top priority.
The fact that the 25-year-old chose not to participate in arbitration suggests that he thinks a deal between Boston and himself is almost complete. However, the Bruins may petition for arbitration with Swayman; club-elected arbitration must be completed by Saturday at 5 p.m. ET.
The Bruins came into the offseason with a good amount of cap space to play around with. The team signed Elias Lindholm and Nikita Zadorov to long term deals which put Boston’s cap space at around $8.6 million.
The goaltender played a major role in the Bruins' 2023–2034 season success. He had a 2.53 goals-against average and a.916 save percentage across 44 appearances. Linus Ullmark, who was just traded to the Ottawa Senators, and Swayman shared net time equally.
Swayman will be a name to watch in the coming days to see if he can work out a deal with the Bruins.
