William Nylander's Health Status Revealed

According to sources who spoke with Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, William Nylander, a prominent player for the Toronto Maple Leafs, was evaluated by the team's medical staff for a possible concussion because of a severe migraine.

According to Friedman, team physicians have not been able to determine Nylander's precise ailment.

The talented winger was not present for the first three games of the Maple Leafs' opening-round playoff series against the Boston Bruins, which saw Toronto lose 4-2 in Game 3 on Wednesday night to trail 2-1. He participated in all 82 regular-season games, matching his career high of 40 goals while establishing new records for points and assists (58).

Nylander had only been forced out of the lineup twice before, during Game 1, and this was the first time it had happened since November 2016.

The 28-year-old Swede disclosed in September 2022 that he changed to a tinted visor due to recurrent migraines he experienced the previous season.

Nylander's postseason efforts are much missed by Toronto. In 50 career postseason games, he has 17 goals and 23 assists, including four goals and six assists in 11 such games this past spring.

Since being selected eighth overall by the Maple Leafs in 2014, Nylander is in his ninth season with the team.

Head injuries are the scariest ones that can be suffered in the NHL and in professional sports. Many NHLers have suffered life-altering consequences due to concussions and CTE, and this has led many to premature retirement.

While he has eight years of contract and $92-million ahead of him, if William Nylander, who is suffering from chronic debilitating migraines mysteriously, cannot recover, he may follow the mould of former second overall pick Nolan Patrick and call it a career early.
